Family Photos

I realized I haven't shared these photos with you all yet, so I'm going to share picture overload, there are just too many good ones I can't pick only one or two.

They were taken back in September at Spruce Meadows on an extremely hot day where I insisted everyone where jeans; can you tell we are over heating in these pictures?

A little note about Spruce Meadows: it's open to the public 7 days a week when they don't have a show on.  You're welcome to walk through the barns, bring your dog, and don't forget a bag of carrots!

Our Summer Vacation

The Big Green Dump Truck in Sparwood, BC - we take
the same picture every year.
For our summer vacation this year, we did the same thing we did for the last few years – we went to our trailer which happens to be parked in a lovely campground resort on a lake, we all LOVE it.

The campgroud is called Eagle's Nest Resort - Hubby
snapped this picture with his iPhone one morning.

So since we have been doing our summer vacation in the same place for the last 4 years and it is also the same place we spend every summer long weekend, we didn’t really do anything new.  There were however 2 small changes to our lives that we got to benefit from this vacation making it so far our best ever family vacation!

This was our first vacation in 5 years that no one was in diapers or pull ups and it was also the first vacation in 5 years that no one needed to take a nap!
Two major benefits in our books.

We were at the beach almost every day.
It was hot.
We went for bike rides.
We took walks.
We threw rocks into the lake.
We had camp fires and a sand castle contest.
We had a blast.
Here are a few photos from the week.

On Holidays

I am outta here!

So our family is heading to the lake / trailer for a week.

We'll be enjoying some beach time.

A campfire or two.

And maybe a few cocktails!

(Sorry no picture of the drinks - we are too busy drinking them to take pictures usually.)

I have a few people guest posting for me next week though, so check back to hear what they have to say!

Cheers,

Jenny

Going Home for a Parade

I grew up in a small town just over an hour outside of Calgary called Three Hills (and yes, there are actually 3 hills there), my parents still live there so occasionally we head up to visit.  This weekend though, Three Hills was celebrating their centennial so we decided to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa and also take the kids to the parade.

This was their first parade ever and the best part about small town parades besides the tractors is the candy!

My Dad is one of the Town Councillors - the kids were super excited that
Grandpa got to be in the parade and throw candy to them.

Check out the loot - we actually dumped the pails into grocery
bags and they filled them up again.

My kids are such city kids - in absolute awe of the big tractors.

Best friends from high school - Karalee and I

I asked the kids the next day what they liked best about the parade, here is what they said:

Little Boy: I liked the fire truck and the cement truck!
Little Girl: My favourite was the candy!
Little Boy: Oh, yeah, me too, my favourite was the candy!
Little Girl: I liked seeing Grandpa in the parade!

Fun in the Sun

Well summer has finally arrived here in Calgary, we have been blessed with the last few days being nice and hot.
This weekend we went with some friends to Allen Bill Pond for a hot dog roast picnic - but instead of being right by the pond, we were by the river - which allowed for tons of fun in throwing rocks.

Sunday, we were planning to hit up Sikome Lake, but instead dragged out the kiddie pool and had a blast in our own back yard.

And then what would a hot day be without popsicles?
I found this recipe for Pina Colada popsicles on Family Fun Canada, made it with the kids and it is a winner all round.
I love that it's pretty healthy and not super sweet.

Pina Colada Popsicles

1 can (400 ml) Coconut milk
1 can (398 ml) diced pineapple (juice drained)*
1 banana
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons sugar

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into popsicle moulds and freeze until ready.

Enjoy!

*I didn't use the pineapple juice, but I am sure you could if you wanted.
